Vern Gosdin was born into a musical family and one of six children. He began singing in their hometown church of Woodland, Alabama where his mother played piano. In the early 1960's he and his brother were a duo and hit the charts with the classic "Hangin On". A few years later Vern retired from performing and operated a glass company but he was soon back in the studio recording with the likes of Emmylou Harris and Janie Frickie. During the 1980's he consistently had songs in the top ten and was truly hitting his stride. In 2008 Vern released his box set which includes 40 years of his great music and even some songs that were never released, it is a great testimony to a special mans career. Vern Gosdin can easily be called the true voice of country music.
