Paper Doll

Paper Doll
by Hank Thompson

C G7 A7 D7
I'm gonna buy a paper doll that I can call my own
  G7 B7 C
A doll that other fellows cannot steal
                                    Cm G E7
And then those flirty flirty guys with their flirty flirty eyes
     D7 G7
Will have to flirt with dollies that are real

     C A7 D7 G7 C
When I come home at night she will be waiting
              A7 D7 G7 E7
She'll be the truest doll in all this world
    F C E7 A7
I'd rather have a paper doll to call my own
            D7 F G7 C
Than have a fickle minded real live girl

             A7 Dm6 G7 C
I guess I've had a million dolls or more
                        Dm6 E7 Am
I guess I've played the doll game o'er and o'er
D# G7 C
I just quarreled with Sue that's why I'm blue
      D7 G7 D7 G7
She's gone away and left me just like all dolls do

     C A7 Dm7 G7 C
I'll tell you boys it's tough to be alone
                  Dm6 E7 Am
And it's tough to love a doll that's not your own
G A# D7 G Dm E7
I'm through with all of them I'll never fall again
      A7 D7 G7
Cause this is what I'll do

Repeat#1 and #2

Classic Country Music Lyrics home | Hank Thompson lyrics

This wonderful song has been recorded by many artists and they're all good, but I much prefer Hank Thompson's version because of his band, the "Brazos Valley Boys". If you like up tempo music with a bit of western swing you'll enjoy it as well. Look in Pure Country Music (see banner below), they may have this fantastic song by Hank. Print out Paper Doll lyrics and chords, it takes practice to get the timing down, I'm not a good picker and I have to leave off a few of what I call exotic chords, but it works ok.
